Our Mission

where oysters + culture meet

Building a sustainable future. One glorious oyster at a time.

We believe in a future where food does a better job of feeding us. We want what we eat to make us  -- and our planet, healthier.

Sound like a pipe dream? It’s not. While we love to eat oysters for their sheer delectableness, there are so many other reasons why eating these shelled beauties is a great idea. Providing valuable nutrients and cleaning the sea are just a few of them.

They're not just delicious, they're hard workers, too.

Oysters are natural ocean cleaners, filtering nitrogen from 25-50 gallons of seawater every day. According to the Journal of Science, excess nitrogen “depletes essential oxygen levels in the water which has significant effects on climate, food production, and ecosystems all over the world.” The nitrogen in our oceans is now 50% above normal levels.

When you pry open an oyster, you're making a responsible choice.

Our Earth is getting crowded. In fact, we could reach nine billion people by 2050 and that’s a lot of people for our planet to feed. Not to mention, climate change, acidification and overfishing are taxing our ocean’s natural stability.

The good news: oyster farming is completely sustainable (also highly regulated to assure you’re eating oysters from clean bodies of water). No antibiotics, no depleting the sea stock to feed these creatures. And to top it all off, oysters support our ocean’s ecosystems. It goes something like this: eat oysters, support oyster farms, save the oceans. Pretty great, right?

It's kind of like enjoying a tasty supplement from the sea.

Oysters are really, really good for you. They’re rich in omega 3s, antioxidants, vitamins, protein, even beneficial cholesterol and large amounts of zinc and magnesium. There aren’t many foods that can claim “indulgence,” “treat,” and “super healthy” all at once. Oysters, we think you’re pretty amazing.
