KERIAN & KRISTIN FENNELLY, A River Runs Through It
Kerian started as a commercial lobsterman, but after five years of lobstering, he needed a change. He and his wife, Kristin were granted the first two aquaculture grants in Westport, MA town history. The first years were tough, but very successful for this duo: Kerian was farming oysters, but still remained a full-time lobsterman. Since then, Riptide has grown into a year-round operation—it remains the only farm on the Westport River, and its isolation makes it special. They stop at nothing to create the perfect oysters and continue to test and develop techniques that are specialized for their grants, working with the environment they have to grow the oysters people want.
